Zach and Jackie Sue Smith first met when they were about 11 years old. They lost touch in a time void of smartphones and Facebook, but reconnected 14 years later thanks to social media. During that time Zach lived in Evansville and Jackie Sue lived in Nashville. One of their first dates was a Colts vs. Titans game in Nashville. Jackie said that she doesn’t remember the score, but she does remember the man. They had an instant connection and both admitted to having childhood crushes on each other.
On July 5, 2014, Jackie Sue and Zach were married. Jackie Sue answered a few questions for me about why she chose the Owensboro Convention Center as the venue for her wedding ceremony and reception.
Why did you decide to have your wedding ceremony and reception at the Owensboro Convention Center?
Our search for a fresh and convenient location in the Owensboro area led us to pick the Owensboro Convention Center for both our wedding ceremony and reception. Our main goal in the wedding planning process was to make it as convenient as possible for not only our traveling guests, but for our local guests as well. Having both the ceremony and reception under one roof, with a beautiful neighboring hotel, could not have been more convenient for our guests. We also wanted our guests to enjoy some of the most breathtaking sites in the Owensboro area. Not only did the out-of-towners get a small glimpse of Owensboro’s charm, but the locals were able to really appreciate what their hometown has to offer.
What was the best part of your wedding experience here?
We enjoyed every aspect of the planning stages thanks in large part to the Owensboro Convention Center’s wedding accommodations. Not only was the OCC team an integral part in making the entire experience enjoyable, but so were each of our vendors: Have a Nice Day Mobile Entertainment, Southern Indiana String Quartet, Dara Pendleton Photography, Bil Collins (Roots Florist), Lesley Cart (“Day of” Wedding Coordinator), 823 Enterprises (Videography), Shelley & Friends Salon and Boutique and Lauren Frugard (hair services), Kayla Greenwell (makeup artist), Maggie’s Cakes and More, Hampton Inn & Suites, Say it Southern Monograms & More, and our supportive friends and family. The OCC team did a great job coordinating with our venders to ensure a flawless “day of” timeline.
Did you feel like we made it easier to prepare for your wedding with the “one stop shop” we offer – a wedding package with food, servers, bartenders, table settings, dance floor, and linens?
The wedding package made the small details a lot more manageable. Not having to worry about table settings, linens, bartenders, servers, etc. was an added bonus to the planning process.
What made the Owensboro Convention Center stand out from other venues you considered?
The convention center is able to accommodate a large number of guests with class and ease. Our guests were able to celebrate with us in a very comfortable environment, which provided plenty of space and an impressive ambiance overlooking the Ohio. The floor to ceiling windows created a jaw dropping backdrop for our reception location. The staff took a personal interest in us from start to finish. We had lots of questions and sometimes concerns, but all were answered and addressed in a very professional manner.
Were you pleased with the quality of your meal?
We had several guests compliment the food both during and well after the reception. We were happy that our guests were as impressed with the menu as we were.
Was the staff professional and easy to work with?
The staff was very receptive to our questions, concerns, needs, and wants. This made the process a lot less stressful. When the staff seems personally invested in making your vision a reality, it makes you feel confident about the end result.
Would you recommend the Owensboro Convention Center as a wedding venue for other brides?
Yes, we would definitely recommend the Owensboro Convention Center as a wedding venue or for other events in general. The atmosphere and accommodations combined with the personnel is a great recipe for a successful event.
